چکیده
Background: Self-assembled, bubble continuous positive airway pressure is a low-cost noninvasive respiratory support modality used to manage newborns with distress. Very few local studies have been conducted regarding its use in the management of neonatal This study was evaluate effectiveness this device as primary treatment for Methods: cross-sectional Department Pediatrics, Ziauddin Hospital, Karachi from 1st February 2018-31st July 2018 on neonates (n=200) admitted distress, whom self-assembled support. The determined, based absence associated complications, signs and oxygen saturation at room air 94% or more. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 20. Chi-square test categorical variables p-value <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: mean gestational age 34.3+2.73 weeks, initiation 7.7 4 hours, duration hospital stay 4.2 days. observed failure rate population 8.5%, while mortality only 2%. finding distress syndrome chest- X-ray (FiO2) > 60% observed. In addition, CPAP after 6 hours onset showed significant results (p<0.001). Conclusion: Self-assembled effective (p=0.001) Keywords: Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure; Neonates; Respiratory Distress.

Effect of Bubble and Ventilator-derived Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates
Background: In this study, we aimed to compare ventilator-derived and bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Vali-e-Asr Hospital, Birjand, Iran, in 2014. Methods: This cohort study was conducted among 68 patients assigned into two groups. The neonates in group A (32 infants) were treated with b...
متن کاملBubble CPAP - a primary respiratory support for respiratory distress syndrome in newborns.
In preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), the application of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is associated with benefits in terms of reduced respiratory failure and reduced mortality. We conducted this prospective study to evaluate the effectiveness of bubble-CPAP as primary mode of respiratory support. Bubble CPAP was found to be safe and effective means of treati...
متن کاملA Comparison between Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation and Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Ventilation in the Treatment of Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Background: Nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) is a non-invasive ventilatory mode, which delivers mechanical ventilation via nasal tubes or prongs. The present study was conducted to compare the efficacy of NIPPV and nasal continuous positive airway pressure ventilation (NCPAP) in reducing the need for intubation in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)....
متن کاملComparison of the Heated Humidified High-flow Nasal Cannula with Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure as Primary Respiratory Support for Preterm Neonates: A Prospective Observational Study
Background: Heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HHHFNC) is gaining popularity in the management of respiratory distress in preterm neonates. However, it is not known whether it takes precedence over the gold standard nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) in this age group as a primary mode of non-invasive ventilation (NIV). There is limited evidence ...
متن کاملContinuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to treat respiratory distress in newborns in low- and middle-income countries
Severe respiratory distress is a serious complication common to the three major causes of neonatal mortality and morbidity (prematurity, intra-partum-related hypoxia and infections). In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), 20% of babies presenting with severe respiratory distress die.Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), is an effective intervention for respiratory distress in newbor...
